In Europe, sodium disulfite is used as a food additive (E 223), mainly as a preservative and antioxidant.
Sodium metabisulfite (SMBS) is also a standard chemical employed in water treatment. SMBS can inhibit fungal growth and aerobic bacteria on reverse osmosis membranes when used as a preservative solution.
SMBS can also be used as a cost-effective solution for the treatment and removal of free chlorine.

- Standard preservation or 'pickling' chemical used in RO plants during shutdowns, periods of inactivity or storage & transport
- Powder form
- 0.5 kg bottle
- Dilute 1 percent in distilled water (100 gr in 10 liters of distilled water)
