Custom Watermaker Systems for Boats, Vessels and Land-Based Installations
Not every watermaker project fits into a standard product box. Some customers need a compact system for a sailing yacht, others need a high-output installation for a commercial vessel, a remote building, a small group of houses, an island property or a land-based site with brackish or saline well water.
BlueGold designs and builds custom reverse osmosis systems according to the specific requirements of each project. We can supply complete watermaker installations, upgrade existing systems, replace outdated components or develop a new system around available space, power supply, water source and required production capacity.
Designed Around Your Real Requirements
A custom watermaker starts with the conditions on site. Before selecting pumps, membranes, pressure vessels, controls or filters, we look at the actual application and the customer’s priorities.
- Water source: seawater, brackish water, saline well water or other suitable feed-water sources.
- Required production: from small onboard systems to higher-output installations for houses, facilities or commercial use.
- Available power: 12 V, 24 V, AC, generator, inverter, shore power or mixed energy systems.
- Installation space: compact marine lockers, technical rooms, machinery spaces or land-based pump rooms.
- Operating style: manual, semi-automatic or fully monitored and controlled systems.
- Serviceability: filter access, membrane replacement, spare parts and long-term maintenance.
Marine and Land-Based Applications
BlueGold systems are not limited to sailing yachts. Our experience with marine watermakers also applies to many land-based desalination and brackish-water applications, especially where compactness, efficiency, reliability and serviceability are important.
Typical applications include:
- Sailing yachts and cruising boats.
- Motor yachts and workboats.
- Commercial vessels and small passenger vessels.
- Remote houses and island properties.
- Small groups of houses with saline or brackish well water.
- Marinas, workshops and technical facilities.
- Upgrade projects for existing desalination installations.
Example: 550 L/h Brackish-Water Installation in Lipsi
One example is a land-based reverse osmosis system installed in Lipsi, Greece, designed to produce approximately 550 litres per hour from saline well water. The system supplies freshwater for a small group of houses and was designed around the available technical room, water source, production requirement and operating conditions.
This type of project shows how marine-grade desalination experience can be applied beyond boats: compact pressure vessels, professional prefiltration, high-pressure pumps, controls, monitoring and practical service access can all be adapted to land-based installations.
Components and System Design
Depending on the project, a custom BlueGold system may include:
- Seawater or brackish-water reverse osmosis membranes.
- BlueGold pressure vessels in suitable formats.
- High-pressure pumps and feed pumps matched to the required flow.
- Prefiltration stages for the specific water source.
- Pressure regulation and overpressure protection.
- TDS or conductivity monitoring.
- Product-water flow measurement.
- Manual or automatic product-water diversion.
- Freshwater flushing where required.
- Control panels, sensors and automation.
- N.E.R.D. or N.E.R.D. 2 controller integration where suitable.
Manual, Semi-Automatic or Fully Controlled
Some installations are best kept simple, with manual valves, pressure gauges and direct operator control. Others benefit from electronic monitoring, automatic flushing, TDS-based diversion, alarms or a dedicated controller.
For advanced projects, BlueGold can integrate N.E.R.D. or N.E.R.D. 2 control solutions, including pressure monitoring, flow measurement, water-quality supervision, operating sequences and, where suitable, automatic pressure regulation.
Upgrade Existing Systems Instead of Replacing Everything
Many older watermakers still contain valuable components. A good stainless-steel high-pressure pump, a usable motor or an existing technical installation may be worth keeping, while pressure vessels, membranes, hoses, filters, valves or controls can be replaced or modernised.
BlueGold can help evaluate existing systems and suggest a practical upgrade path. In many cases, the result is more efficient, more serviceable and more reliable than a simple like-for-like replacement.
Before We Quote: Send Us Your Project Details
Every custom system starts with information. Before buying components or requesting a complete system, please contact us with as many details as possible.
Useful information includes:
- Photos of the installation area or existing system.
- Water source: seawater, brackish water, well water or other source.
- Required production in litres per hour or litres per day.
- Available electrical supply.
- Available space and installation constraints.
- Existing pumps, membranes, pressure vessels or controls if present.
- Current problems, if this is an upgrade or repair project.
- Expected usage pattern: daily, seasonal, occasional or continuous.
With this information, we can check feasibility, select suitable components and propose a realistic configuration.
Built for Practical Operation and Service
A watermaker should not only work on paper. It must be installable, understandable and serviceable. BlueGold focuses on standard membrane formats, accessible components, clear hydraulic layouts and practical maintenance.
Whether the system is installed in a yacht, a technical room, a marina building or a remote house, the goal is the same: reliable freshwater production using components that can be inspected, maintained and replaced over time.
