The ESP32-C3 Zero is a compact and low-power microcontroller board based on a 32-bit RISC-V processor, running up to 160 MHz and equipped with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
It provides a reliable and flexible platform for embedded applications requiring communication, sensor acquisition and distributed control.

Use in the N.E.R.D. System
Within the N.E.R.D. architecture, the ESP32-C3 is used as a remote I/O module.
It is responsible for:
– Reading analog sensors (pressure, TDS)
– Processing flow sensor pulse signals
– Controlling outputs via RS485 relay modules
– Communicating with the main ESP32-S3 controller over Modbus RTU
This distributed approach reduces wiring complexity and improves system scalability and reliability.
The ESP32-C3 is selected for its compact size, low power consumption and sufficient processing capability for real-time I/O handling.
By separating I/O tasks from the main controller, the system remains responsive and easier to expand.
